I am Rowena Bolo, a Filipina based in Melbourne. In recent years, I discovered my passion for entrepreneurship and start up ecosystem, which led me to venture into online marketing.
Back in Singapore, I got involved in a start up called The Athena Network. Although an introvert I went out of my comfort zone to network and attend business events such as Start up Weekend (Women’s edition) and Powering Women in Business which The Athena Network organized with Microsoft and Starhub.
What I’m passionate about…
I am passionate about web analytics and conversion rate optimization which I believe, will impact any type of business in the future (especially we’re just scratching the surface of eCommerce world!). I have been involved in online marketing since 2011 and I fell in love with it. I now have this thirst to learn and implement everything that I learn. I want to invest all my resources in digital marketing with a clear purpose of having my own business in the future.
Having said this, I am very much open to join a business/start up first so that I can learn and contribute at the same time before I set up my own business. I live by this quote from my role model Clayton Christensen:
Family is very important to me, so I also see myself being a mumpreneur. I want to be able to balance having a business and to also do my best raising our future kids well. This sounds like something unachievable but I believe that family is our number one source of happiness – so this is an utmost priority. I would very much like to be a happy entrepreneur. 🙂
My personal development evolution…
I can tend to feel that I am not good enough sometimes. Somehow, in the social and communications aspect, I am not that gifted. I used to have this fear of talking to Caucasians and expats – I feel it has something to do with how I was raised as an Asian girl in a conservative society. I did my best when I worked in Singapore (and now in Australia) to get out of my comfort zone and to mingle with different types of people as much as possible.
I feel that everyone has this goal of expressing his/her authentic self. For me, I am aware that I am an introverted, highly sensitive person so I am learning to respect my real self while looking for ways to improve. I respect Susan Cain’s work and how she is empowering introvert leaders all around the world – I wish to be one someday! 🙂
I’ve always believed in the power of deliberate practice so I can see myself just going out there to experience challenges – to stretch myself and to take it one step at a time. Kaizen is one of my principles, it keeps me sane in this ever demanding world!
Everyone is beautiful and I want to be the person who sees the beauty in every person I meet…
