I’ll be the first to admit that deciding to be a conscious consumer and aim for sustainable living can be challenging. Anything uncommon is going to be faced with difficulties – lesser available choices, a bit more expensive (or a lot!), not convenient, time consuming, etc.
I totally get it and I myself am just starting to make the shift and I feel it’s the perfect timing that we are moving to a new country again (fresh start and more opportunities to decide on a minimalistic lifestyle).
I think if there’s one thing we can all do – and it doesn’t even have to be a complete overhaul (as you know, I’m a Kaizen believer, baby steps always win!), is to take a look at body care and household cleaning products. I made a short video again so if you have a minute to spare, you can watch it now…
Good news for residents of Philippines, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand
I’ll be recommending two brands which are easily accessible in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Philippines and most South East Asian countries. Although a big fan of these brands, I am in no way affiliated with them nor am I getting any commission from them. I just really trust their brands and the companies’ mission that it’s definitely worth sharing them with you. I personally use both brands’ products and I have not found a better alternative – thus, I can say with confidence that these two are the best eco household products in the market!
The first brand is:
I love this excerpt below from their book Ecoman, which sums up how making the shift to healthier and safe products should resonate with all of us. It is so true that no one’s giving anything up and it’s an incredible proposition indeed.

Those who are based in New Zealand and Australia are so lucky as Ecostore is available in major supermarkets and health stores. You don’t need to read the book to trust their company mission and ethos (although it’s a superb book you should get), Ecostore does a very good job branding their products and they make it easy for anyone to love their products and be hooked to their brand.
Ecostore and Ecoman battled to come up with the solution to get rid of nasty chemicals but it doesn’t stop there. They even invented what they call Carbon Capture Pak – their sustainable bottles which actually help stop global warming. Their commitment to sustainable living is admirable.
Amazing, right? I can go on and on to tell you how awesome Ecostore and their products are. Check out their YouTube channel to know more or if you are a researcher like me, head over to this comprehensive Ingredients page where they list down which nasty chemicals they leave out. This is truly a feat as only a few brands are transparent about all the ingredients they use.
The second brand is:
If you are from the Philippines and Singapore, and you haven’t heard of Human Heart Nature yet, it’s time you visit their site and be inspired. Human Heart Nature came from the family who started Gawad Kalinga. Tony Meloto known as the Philippines’ Father of Social Entrepreneurship and awarded Social Entrepreneurship of the World 2012 built Gawad Kalinga with the ultimate mission of ending poverty for 5 million families by 2024.
Where goodness is sown, goodness is reaped. This is what we proved when Human Nature successfully opened its Carmelray Manufacturing Plant in Canlubang, Laguna in 2014. Founded on the spirit of bayanihan and commitment to providing quality, natural goodness in every bottle, the plant upholds the highest possible standards in production and quality control. Human Nature’s microbial standards are 100 times stricter than FDA allowable limits in cosmetics, for example.
Though still a very young company, Human Nature has big plans for the future and is fiercely determined to make the Human Nature brand the best of the Philippines, by the Filipinos, for the Filipinos!
So determined indeed that Human Nature is now available in the US, Singapore, Malaysia and UAE. Similar to Ecostore, they also offer lots of information about what ingredients go into their products.
Human Nature is the first and only Philippine home and personal care brand that is a member of the Natural Products Association (NPA) which is the largest and oldest nonprofit organization in the US dedicated to the promotion of natural manufacturing and protecting of consumers’ health and environmental safety.
What I also love about Human Nature is they make it easy for everyone to start a social enterprise by being their independent advocate. Human Nature is one of the successful social enterprises in the Philippines:
Anna Meloto-Wilk, Human Nature President & co-founder, says :
Human Nature products are 100% made in the Philippines and we aim to help as many poor communities as possible grow ingredients that will deliver a much higher income than traditional farming. Selling our one millionth product means that many different communities have already benefited. This milestone proves that businesses can be highly successful while actively loving our country, loving the poor and loving the environment.”
Sustainable Living: No one’s losing. No one’s giving anything up.
This statement is spot on. Thanks to companies like Ecostore and Human Nature, we now have access to safer and healthier household and body care products for the whole family. I won’t bore you with details of how chemicals cause endocrine disruption, allergies and other harmful effects because as someone who cares about your family, I’m sure you have somehow read or watched videos about these.
I can’t and I won’t stop doing my best to spread the word about safer products – this is something near and dear to me as I had a recent miscarriage and we plan to conceive again soon. My hope is that you’ll not take this matter lightly. Sometimes our complacency impacts our children the most, in ways that we aren’t aware of. We are given so many healthier options now – it’s up to us to make more conscious choices.
